NEET UG 2024: Supreme Court Hears Challenges, Re-exam on June 23, Grace marks cancelled

The Supreme Court of India is wading into the controversy surrounding the NEET UG 2024 medical entrance exam. Hearings began on Thursday as the court weighs petitions challenging the National Testing Agency's (NTA) handling of the crucial exam.

Grace Marks Controversy:

One major concern involves the award of "grace marks" to over 1,563 candidates by the NTA. Alakh Pandey, CEO of the educational technology firm Physics Wallah, filed a petition questioning the randomness of this practice. He urged the court to establish an independent panel to investigate the entire NEET UG 2024 exam process and results.

Perfect Score Scrutiny:

This year's record-breaking number of students (67) scoring a perfect 720 has also raised eyebrows. Specifically, six students from a single center in Faridabad, Haryana, achieving the top score has sparked suspicion of irregularities.

What's Next?

The Supreme Court's decision will have a significant impact on thousands of medical aspirants. In a key development, the Centre informed the court that the grace marks awarded to the 1,563 candidates will be cancelled. These students will be offered a re-exam on June 23rd, with results expected before June 30th.
